Editing and using the transitions and affects

All our footage got lost on the computer so i had to captue and put the footage all over again on the computer. This was time consuming as it took up most of the time we had in our double lesson.

But we decided to stay back after college to finally start editing. We used cross dissolves. Change the speed of most shots. Added lens flare onto the glass globe. Hopefully next lesson we will get to do some more editing becuase we are running out of a very short amount of time.

Starting to edit

Before we started editing the were somethings me and Neelam decide to take into account.
'Editing'
our footage might be great, but it'll only become a great video through editing. To do a good job we'll need patience, time and more patience. We still need to decide the 'feel' and pace of the video. Will it be made up of long sweeping shots, or quick sharp edits? Do we want to follow the mood of the song and edit to the music or do we want the video to contrast with the track?

The judicious use of the right effect can really set our video apart.

After we’ve done a rough edit me and neelam are going to discuss how it should be finished, but if 2 people sit round all trying to edit a video together a long process will become torturous and, almost inevitable, will end in falling outs so we have to be calm and respect each others opinions throughout the process. Taking each others opinions into account..

'Get the Right Software and Hardware'

The basic video software for Macs is iMovie and for the PC, Adobe's Premiere Elements is a good place to start. The more complex software we have available has given us more freedom and choice. We have college providing us with the software Final cut pro

'Be Creative'
There are many videos have we have seen on MTV that consist of the band playing in a club, with the lights flashing whilst the audience jump up and down? We are going to Try and think of something different when we make our video. Filming a Hollywood blockbuster on a shoestring budget will generally look crap! One of the most interesting videos I've seen recently was of the band playing in the back of a transit van while it went through a car wash – the only cost was the car wash fee. From this simple idea they made a interesting and quirky video that was premiered on MTV Europe.

Today we captured our footage onto the timeline and started some edits.Right now we have a rough idea of what order we want our shots to be in the music video. We also put the music up onto the computers so we can edit with the beat of the music which would make our music video as we put different shot lengths of time with different parts of the song..
We decided some shots were not good enough to use in our music video but we are happy with quite a lot of our filming them being the butterfly shot captured in Chester zoo, me on top of a
Arndale as an angle and the sunset.

Mis-en-Scene of filimg

Locations used:
1. On top of Arndale

2. My house

3. Chester zoo

4. East's to east restaurant

5. location outside east to east restaurant

Costume and makeup:

I inspired my costume to the original video of Britney spears. he baggy shirt representing the guys shirt and the emptiness the girl feels without him so she walks around the house wearing his shirt to feel his presence. Also it doesn't show her glamouras.

The angel costume was a long white dress i bought especially for the video and some wings so the angle looks more real rather than fake. The white representing purity and innocence.

With the male lead i decide to go casual with the colour blue on which suits the mode which is calm.
When the boy drift away from me on the bench i m wearing a white dress with a black blazer and tights. Black contrasting with the white representing mystery and a negative energy
My make up and hair was an messy look to show how stressed the character was without the boy. The smudgy eyeliner to show she was crying without him.
I decided to keep the males clothing very casual so my target audience can reflect on his dress sense which is of an average teenager to young adult.

Key props:
The 2 main key props were
The glass globe which represented the angel trappped inside this cage which was a metaphor for the song.

The wings which made the whole angle outfit seem realistic and it went visually with the lyrics.

Projector filiming

Today Neelam helped me film these projector shots. But before doing these projector shots i got a shot of me and the male lead playing around with the camera. I was lucky enough because he comes my college so i had more time to film with him in case a emergency happened. I got the shots with him so it can be used on the projector and me reflecting back on it in the scene and remembering him.
Together me and Neelam worked as a team to capture these shots. And we worked well as team and it was much easier working with someone rather than individually working.
Neelam got many shots including:
1. close up lighting of the projector which is used in Jay Sean's video 'stay' to introduce the song, we could introduce a scene withit.
2. mid of me looking at the screen.
3. mid shot of me walking past screen.
4. mid shot of me touching his face on the screen.
5. mid shot of my back watching the screen.

Neelam got many other shots just in case we may need extra footage.

on top of arndale filimng

This is one of the hardest things i have ever had to do. Alone i went on top of Arndale to capture some shots with a long white dress and some fairy wings.

Spending 2 hours in the freezing cold i was lucky enough to get some sunset shots and the sunsetting on me. I wanted to achieve an oxymoron in this shot of the angel contrasting with city landscape. Showing her in captured in this world. All so being on top of Arndale was another advantage because the building was pretty high i was on the same level as other buildings making it a more realistic feature of an angle high up rather than on the ground.

Again putting the camera on self recorded i got many shots
1. extreme long shot of the city land scape which could be used at the beginning of the song to introduece the place. Becuase the sun was setting there was a dark blabk shadow on the buldings making them look mysterious, this footage could look really good when editing.
2. establishing shot of the sky
3. close up of angel to show some facial expressions
4. mid shot of angel sitting down on the fence
5. long shot of angel standing up and turning around
6. mid shot of angel walking
8. mid shot of angel singing
9. mid shot of angel looking over landscape
10. over the shoulder shot of angel looking back

Today i captured some really good footage and i was lucky enough to have the sunset them and the sun be captured in the cold winter day giving it an angelic feeling. Even though embarrassing myself by standing on top of Arndale where people were thinking i was abit mentally unstable with a white dress and wings and was trying to jumpy of the building. Over all good day with some really good useful footage. I have also got some additional shots of me as a fairy and establishing shots just in case we might need more.

At friends birthday filming

The only way of getting hold of the male lead of the song was at a friends party and i used this to my advantage. As my friends birthday was at restuarant akabars. And outside akbars there is a bridge and some bences that look urban and fit into exactly what i need.
I again put the camera on record and filmed some scense with a friend of mine the male an hour early. In the restarant i got one of my othere friends to be the other girl hes talking to and rejecting my phon cal. This was quite hard as the battery was low ofthe camera and i had to get footage quickly not getting any additional shots.

The shots i got today were:
1. extreme long shot of couple walking
2. mid shot of the couple sitting on the bench
3. close up of them holding hands
4.mid shot of couple hugging on bridge
5. mid shot of girl standing aone on bridge
7. close up of phone ringing
8. long shot of boy with another girl talking and rejecting phone call.

I did get some additional shots of the couple just incase i need more footage of the couple together.

At home filming

Today i found it particular a very big challenge as i was filming all by my self and had to put the camera on record while filming. But successfully i got most of the shots needed in the house. The reason why i decided to use my house because i wanted the location o look more realistic which a teenage girl-young adult can relate to. I used the house because there is a variety where we can film whereas in a hotel room there are only possible 2 locations in the room we can film.

Using this as an advantage i used the space and lots of rooms in the housing. Creating a gloomy sad empty house without the boy there. I used orange lighting because their is a theme of the sunset so i wanted it to relate to that.
My sister helped me with 2 hots which were the 2 90 degree whip pan shots.
Today i realised i could be independent and learn more about individual filming.
I did have a major problem though the glass globe i bought for the video smashed just after 2 shots. This was major difficult because i had to use a broken glass globe in the rest of the song.

The shots i got included:
1.long shot of me in my room
2. Close upshots of me singing
3. mid/long shot of me singing to add variety into the lip sync and not only have one angle so the audience doesn't get bored.
4. some mid shots of me in the room to cut throughout the song when a melody is playing.
5.low angle shot of me and glass globe
6. 90 degree whip pan in my room
7. 90 degree whip pan to the other room where i have a nightmare
8. mid shot of me sleeping
9. mid shot of my reaction and facial expression
10. long shot of me in bathroom
11. low angle shot of me ringing underneath the glass table to add variety into the other shots as it would make the music video look more interesting.
12. long shot of me walking around the room
13. mid shot of me looking out the window from day light to night - this took an hour to do. I had to stay really still until it didn't turn dark enough to represent dark
14. mid shot of me sitting with back 2 wall x2
15. close up/point of view shot of computer images
16. mid shot of me looking at computer images
17. long shot of door closing which will hopefully be used at the end to represent end of song.

One problem i did encounter was the lack of time because i needed some of the shots in daylight but coming an hour distance from ollege i had about 15 minutes of daylight left which i used very quickly and used my time effieciently.

I did allot of additional footage just to be on the safe side just in case we need more home locations footage. Better to be safe than sorry.

Promblem occured

There has been another promblem the past current week's filimg we did the tape has got lost. So we have to start our filming right over again hopefully now learning to be more careful with the equimpment we have been provided with.
However the only shots we managed to lose were the house ones which could get replaed easily. We still have our Chester zoo shots on a different tape which is a big relief.

Filming

Today i finally started filming. And made an achievement to get all the houuse shots needed for the filming. Filming early is an advantage as when we go back onto editing if any additional footage is needed i could just go back and do some more. And what makes it more convieniant that i have acess to this loaction whenever becuase it is my house. I managed to get several shots done of the girl singing in her bedroom becuase i personally think a sad romantic song isn't that great without lip sync. As most of the sad romantic songs contain some lip sync from Chris Brown/Jordan Spark's 'no air' to 'bleeding love' by leona lewis. I also go other shots including me trying to phone my boyfriend, sleeping, waking up from nightmare, looking at his pictures, sitting in the garden, walking around the rooms, and looking outside the kitchen window.

Mary ward day filming

22/10/09
Today i went to catch some shots with some animals, waterfalls and any other thing related to rain forest any tropical greenery.I decided to take these shots because i know the concept of the video is urban with a fictional twist in it. So i thought the video would look more evened out with some rural landscapes and shots in it.
However some of the footage captured today will not be in use for filming i don't think because it wouldn't look appropriate for example footage on a elephant.
But we will decide what footage we will use when we edit our music video.
I got many shots of me walking through rain forests, bridges, waterfalls to create that mystical atmosphere towards the song.

Because only our main idea is planned i don't know which shots will be used, with more in depth research and planning i will be able to find out.
